Lymphatic drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage is a massage therapy technique that consists of applying soft massages on different areas of the body with the objective of improving the circulation of lymph and the lymphatic system.

The function of this technique is to improve the automatic contraction of the lymphatic vessels, helping to eliminate edema and other alterations derived from poor lymph circulation.

The lymphatic system is responsible for transporting waste products derived from cell nutrition to the blood, which then carries them to the excretory system for elimination. Edemas appear when the lymphatic system cannot purify certain areas, so liquids and substances stagnate.

The pressure applied during lymphatic drainage helps draw retained fluids into the circulatory system and blood. In addition to transporting waste substances from cells, the lymphatic system also acts as the body’s defense system; this is due to the lymph nodes, structures located in various areas of the system that act by purifying pathogens and neutralizing any damage they may cause.
