Botox
Botox injections use a toxin to temporarily stop a muscle from moving. These injections are often used to smooth wrinkles on the face. They are also used to treat neck spasms, sweating, overactive bladder, lazy eye and other conditions. Botox injections may also help prevent migraine.
The drug used in Botox injections is made from the same toxin that causes a type of food poisoning called botulism. However, the purified forms of botulinum toxin used by licensed health care providers meet medical monitoring standards. These standards were approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a general rule, bacterial toxins used for medical purposes are not harmful if used correctly.
